I really enjoy spending time with the people I love and I’m a very loving and caring person with the people I’m close with. I really appreciate little details and love giving gifts even when they’re not that significant. I believe I’m a very grateful person and I try to let people know that I love them most of the time. I really like activities such as cooking or playing tennis with my cousins. I love getting new opportunities because they normally lead to new experiences.
Hello family!
I am writing to introduce myself. First of all, I would like to thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to live with your family and to get to experience how life is in your country.
I would like to introduce myself so you get to know a little bit more about me.
I’m Sara and I live in Madrid, the capital city of Spain. It is quite a big city with over 3 million people.I live with my parents -Jose and Eva- and my brother -Nicolás- who is two years older than I am. We live in an apartment; I have my own room and my brother has his too. The apartment has a terrace that we really enjoy being in during the spring and summer, when we spend much of our free time there playing board games, having lunch and dinner…My parents both work. My father is a computer scientist and works in an American technology company and my mother is a PR & Comms Director working also in an American company. My brother spent last year in Canada as an exchange student. He has spoken to me lot an about how great the experience was. He met many new friends and learnt so many things. I can’t wait to experience that myself.
My school is a 30 minute bus ride from my house. My mom usually takes us to school in the morning because we start quite early, at 8.15 am, and she works quite close to our school. After school, we take a bus and get home about 5pm. Currently, I´m a student in 9th grade.
I like listening to music (specially pop music), drawing, playing paddle tennis which I play with my friends and I love cooking, specially baking cakes or cookies. I also enjoy watching movies and TV shows. I love travelling. I´ve travelled around Spain and I’ve also visited some European countries with my parents such as Norway, Denmark, Netherlands or France. I'm catholic although we don’t go to church every Sunday but we do on important festivities like Christmas or Easter.
I am not sure yet what I want to do for a living in the future but when it comes to subjects, the ones I really like are Biology and English. I believe I am a kind and easy person to get along with. I like meeting new people even though I may be a little quiet at first, but when I gain confidence I am an open person. I usually try to have a positive perspective of things. I´m very responsible and always try to do my best.
I cannot wait to start this experience. My mom herself was an exchange student in the States many years ago and she has lots of memories that I can’t wait to make for myself. I know there will be some tough times but I’m confident that I will be able to get through them with your help. I’m sure that it will be a fantastic year that will allow me to grow a lot and become more open minded. Also, I believe that I will make friends and memories that I will never forget.
Finally, I would like to say a big thank you for hosting me and giving me the opportunity to be a part of your family next year. Can´t wait to meet you!
Kind regards,
Sara.
My three greatest qualities are adaptability, loyalty and open-mindedness. In my family, we're used to doing things together. For example, we always eat together, watch movies, visiting exhibitions, hiking, going to concerts. I enjoy music and play the piano and the violin. I enjoy reading, cooking and doing activities with my family or friends. I run from time to time.
Dear host family,
First of all I would like to thank you for your hospitality. I hope that through this letter you can get to know me better.
To begin with, my name is Hélène and I'm 16. I'm Belgian. There are many things in life that I love, starting with my family. I have a little brother, Moise, who's 15, and an older sister, Rachel, who's 28. I really love them. My mom's name is Ludivine and I love her more than anything. As for my dad, he sadly passed away in 2018. Thanks to my family and the people around me, it hasn't been too difficult to overcome. Despite this, my dad remains one of the people I love the most. I live with my mom, my brother and our two cats, I love spending time with them. I know that seeing them always brings me good memories and a good mood. In my family, we're used to doing things together. For example, we always eat together, watch movies, visiting exhibitions, hiking, going to concerts,...
As for life at home, there really are no fixed rules, which doesn't mean we can do whatever we want . When we want to go out, we have to tell my mom in advance or send her a message. When it comes to household chores, everyone participates in everything.
I enjoy going to school. As far as the teachers are concerned, they're friendly and always ready to help. I get to see my friends, with them it's impossible to get bored. We always help each other out when we don't understand. At my school, the classes are very varied, which allowed me to take a lot of different options. Classes start at 8.20am and finish at 6.10pm, which is very nice. When I come home from school, I always do my homework after a snack. I really enjoy reading books while listening to music. I like baking (especially to eat it afterwards). I've also been taking violin lessons since I was 8 and piano lessons for 2 years, so during the week I practice every day. I really enjoy watching F1 races and discussing them with a friend afterwards. I also like to listen to lots of different kinds of music like country, French variety, pop, indie folk, rock,...
In everyday life I'm a caring person, I like to learn about people and I like to help. I am a bit shy but cheerful and smiling person. Since I was little I've been pretty resourceful and independent. The main reason I want to live in the United States is to discover the country and the incredible people who live there. I also want to improve my English, and I can't think of a better way to do it. Moving to the United States is an evidence as the country is so varied and has such a rich culture. I hope to be able to share with you my good humor, my culture and my incredible sense of humor.I also wish to become part of your lives and community. I'm a pleasant person who can be counted on and trusted, and I hope to be able to share that with you. Finally, I would like to thank youfrom the bottom of my heart for the place you will make for me in your lives and for your hospitality, I can't wait to meet you! Hélène
My name is Cristina, I would say that I'm a very independent person, I like doing things on my own if I can. Also I'll say that I'm extrovert but not at the beginning, I need to get confidence first so maybe sometimes I look like I'm shy, but once I feel comfortable I'm very extrovert and I love talking. My favorite activities to do are reading, dancing or playing badminton. Another thing that I love doing is spending time with my family and friends, that are very important for me.
Dear future family,
My name is Cristina I'm 14 years old. I live in a small city with my mom, dad and a little sister who I share room with. I like my city, it isn't very big so is easier to go anywhere. I live in a apartment in the outskirts of the city so is very peaceful. As I said I share room with my sister and we share everything, except my little library, that's just mine. We don't have pets but I love animals so I don't have any problem about living with animals.
I've always liked learning English and since I was little I used to watch American series and movies so that's a reason why I'm so happy for having the opportunity to live the experience. Also I had other experiences in different countries but I've never lived there. Of course I'm so grateful because I can have this experience , make new friends, learn English, learn about a new culture and share mine. I would like to explore the American culture trying things as typical food, traditions, visiting places and also share my culture doing things like making typical food from Spain.
If I had to discribe myself I would say that I'm a very independent person, I like doing things on my own if I can. Also I'll say that I'm extrovert but not at the beginning, I need to get confidence first so maybe sometimes I look like I'm shy, but once I feel comfortable I'm very extrovert and I love talking.
I like doing sports and my favourite sports are badminton and volleyball so I hope that I can join a club and practice them very often. Another thing I love doing is reading so it would be very interesting to read books in English for improving my level. In my free time I enjoy a lot drawing and listening to music, is something that for me is very relaxing, like having a personal moment with myself without any disruption. I also love hanging out with my friends like most of teenagers, they are very important for me so I'm excited to meet people there. Spending time with my family is the most important thing for me, we do at least a family trip per year for having new experiences together and that's a thing that I would love to do with my host family as well, spending time with them and creating memories together
Other thing that I do daily but is not a hobby is doing housework like washing dishes, the laundry, making food sometimes,... I think is important to help at home.
Another thing that I'm so excited about too are the variety of subjects that I'll have in the high school, a lot of them that here I can't course so I think that I'll be very motivated to study subjects that I like but I can't have here.
My expectations are just having a very different year, learning a lot of new things, meeting people and creating a special relationship with my host family and new friendships and learning about the culture and traditions, visiting places and doing trips in family.
And I'd like to finish saying that I'm very grateful with the host family for giving me the opportunity. I'm looking forward for meeting you.
For the moment a great aspiration of mine is to understand what I really like, I am passionate about psychology but also law and economics I am interested in, there are many jobs that I can decide to do but I am not completely sure yet. For the moment I am committed to all the subjects I study, maybe I will change my mind and do something else. Another activity I’m interested in is debating.
Dear Host family,
My name is E., I am 16 years old, and I’m incredibly excited about the opportunity to spend one year abroad as part of your family. I want to introduce myself.I come from a quite large family and I am the youngest of three children. I have two older sisters and we are all very close, and I’ve learned so much from them. We also have a dog named Doki. We always support each other,we are supportive and we have an open dialogue. My parents have always been open to my ideas and dreams and it is thanks to their support that I decided to spent this year abroad. I’m curious and determined person. I’m a sociable person, I enjoy being with my peer and see different perspectives through the people I meet. At the same time I am also thoughtful and, in every new experience, I like to learn something useful that can make me grow. I am an independent person that like to organize my time and my activities with autonomy and I am not afraid of facing new challenges. At home, I spent majority of my time studying but I contribute by helping prepare meals, keeping my room clean and taking care of Doki by walking him or brushing him. I am very disciplined when it comes to my schoolwork. I enjoy learning new things and have a particular interest in languages and history.
Over the past two years, I have had the opportunity to attend summer schools in Dublin and London, where I experienced life away from home for the first time. When I’m not studying, I love spending time with my friends. Whether it’s going to the movies, having a meal together, or just walking around the city, I appreciate moments of connection and shared experiences. I like to be surrounded by people who, like me, love to compare and learn from each other. For a few years I have been volunteering as an entertainer during summer camps for younger children, where I help organize activities and day trips.
During the school months my days are quite repetitive. I wake up at 6.15am and after getting ready I go to school by public transport. In the afternoon, in addition to homework, I go to the gym or watch the latest TV series. After dinner I like to read a book or listen a podcasts. My day usually ends at 10pm. On the weekend, if I don't organize a trip with my family or friends, I wake up later. I like to take care of myself and help my parents at home. On Saturday afternoons I go out with friends and sometimes I go out for dinner with them. The decision to spend a year abroad was born from my desire to challenge myself and get out of my comfort zone. I’m aware that living away from home for such a long time will present challenges, but I am determined and motivated to take on this adventure. I want to immerse myself in a new culture, discover new habits and lifestyles, and, at the same time, improve my language and academic skills. I am sure that this experience will help me grow, both personally and academically.
Thank you for your attention, hope to meet you soon
E.
I am an active and cheerful boy that loves sports and play volleyball, paintball, surfing and in the winter I like snowboarding. I like spending time with my family and friends. I am a great eater (love food). I am very affectionate and very easy going. I enjoy life and I always see the good part of things. I am a member of the Scouts.
Dear host family,
First of all, thank you very much for giving me the opportunity to visit your country, and have, what I know it is going to be, a great experience.
My name is Diego, and I’m 14 years old. I live in Palencia, an small city in Castilla y León, Spain. At home we are a lot, exactly 7, but as our home is big it’s not bothersome.
Let me introduce you to my family:
My parents, María and Carlos, are amazing and they take care of us all. Then there is Dmytro, an Ukrainian boy, who is living with us since the war and he is going to stay for, at least 2 more years. He has the same age as Juan, my oldest brother, who is 17 years old. Then, I have a sister, Isabel (15) that is currently at USA, and Jorge (12). I love to spend time with my family but I get alone better with Jorge, because we like picking each other.
When I am at home, and as we are so many, I try to help with everything I can. I prepare breakfast everyday, I am in charge of my bedroom order, sometimes I cook lunch or dinner, and I also help with laundy and the dishwasher.
I am a calm, happy, optimist, friendly and affectionate person. I like going out to the countryside, in camps and spending time outdoor with my friends and family, practicing sports and hiking in nature. I also like staying at home watching tv or listening to music. I also like board and card games.
During the school year, I go to different activities: Volleyball, Scouts and Paintball. I like these activities because they are fun and I have many friends whom I share them with.
First of all, one of the reasons for which I am going to the USA is that my parents want me to, as all my mum’s family have had the experience of living one year abroad and all of them had an amazing stay in your country. My oldest brother went two years ago and he had a great experience. This year my sister is abroad and she is loving it. Secondly, I would like to know your country and your culture, and I am sure it will be an unforgettable adventure, I would like to see your yellow school buses and see the atmosphere of your high schools. I believe this experience will help me grow.
Once again, I want to thank you for hosting me, I am sure that we’ll both have a great time together.
See you soon!
Diego
