Another thing that I’m Interested in is reading books and.  In my free time I often go out with friends to play basketball, go shopping or to just talk and chill together.  I’ve always been curious about different cultures and ways of life, and the USA has fascinated me for a long time. Also, I love sports like basketball. The opportunity to experience American culture firsthand, improve my English, and meet new people made me want to go there. I believe living in the USA will help me grow personally, which is why I’m excited to spend time there. What I’m most excited about in my exchange experience is the opportunity to combine several passions. I’m looking forward to participating in sports, as I know it will challenge me and help me grow as an athlete. At the same time, I’m eager to immerse myself in the culture, to see how everyday life in the USA differs from what I’m used to. I’m also excited about learning new things—whether it's through school, making new friends, or simply experiencing a different way of life. All of this will help me grow and gain new perspectives. I’m approaching my exchange year in the USA with an open mind and a lot of excitement. I’m eager to embrace new experiences, whether it’s learning about meeting new people, or trying things I’ve never done before. Student Letter:

Dear family,

My name is Martina, I’m 14 years old and I’m from an area near Barcelona. I have always been interested in studying abroad. I also think that is the best experience I would have, because after that I will be more autonomous and I will improve my personal growth, academically and culturally. I’m very excited to spend one year in the United States to learn more about you and the things you like to do, also to improve my English and share my culture with you.

I’m very grateful to be able to be with you for one year and be part of your family. I will do my best to make it a good experience for everyone.

I would like to live this experience because I would like to know more about how the people do things there, how they think and I would like to go to high school and learn how they study there and be part of the activities you do everyday.

I’m very shy, but when I get confidence. People often say that I’m gentle and generous, I always look out for others and take care of the people that I love, and I’m very affectionate.

The things I enjoy doing are horse riding, cooking, I enjoy travelling and discovering new places, I like car races, and shopping.

My family is not very big, my parents are Marta and Alfred, I have one older sister whose name is Mariona, and I have two dogs, their names are Paco and Nix. We have always been close to each other and we never have problems talking about things, no matter how bad they are.

I have 4 close friends, their names are Pilar, Judit, Thais and Nina part from that I have friends from camping, and classmates.

I went to 2 different schools, the first one I started when I was little, and the school I go to now I start in the 2nd of ESO.

In my free time with my family I often go shopping, we watch films or maybe we go somewhere like car races  because my father really likes them, go to visit family, or we also like doing activities together.

My father is 53 years old  and is older than my mother, she is 51. They are really close to me, they always look for me and how I am, for my sister too. My father has a company and my mother is a housewife. They aren’t really strict but they put limits. They don’t worry about what I wear, in that case they are very liberal, they care if I do something I don’t have to do.

Talking about the food I like, I don’t have problems with most of products, I like to taste almost everything and I adapt very well. I like all types of music, but my favorite is flamenco.

Thanks again to you for giving me this opportunity. I think I am a good choice because I will try to do my best to learn a lot, don’t get into any problems. I’m a responsible girl  and I know why I’m going there and how I have to behave. I’m not lying when I say I’m a little bit fear about the culture shock but I’m confident of being part of your family for one year will make me so happy and I will appreciate your effort.

Thanks for your time, I hope I hear something from you!

Student Letter:

Dear host family,

Thank you for offering me this incredible opportunity. My name is Riccardo, in this yearlong adventure in the USA, I have many expectations that I hope to fulfill as I will immerse myself in a new environment. I hope to improve my language skills. I have a basic understanding of English, and living in the USA is the perfect opportunity to improve my knowledge and fluency. I expect to improve my vocabulary, refine my grammar, and become more comfortable in everyday conversations. Talking with native speakers and facing real life situations will allow me to develop my language skills in a more practical and efficient way. I also look forward to gaining a better understanding of the culture through the language, picking up slang and expressions, and becoming more versatile in using English.

Another important aspect of my adventure is the chance to engage in various activities. I plan to take part in school events, sports, and social gatherings, all of which will offer opportunities to practice my language skills in different contexts. These activities will help me broaden my perspective on American culture while challenging me to step outside my comfort zone. I expect to develop new skills, make memories, and build resilience through these experiences. Whether it's joining a local sports team or attending a community event, I hope to push my limits and learn more about myself in the process.

Above all, I anticipate significant personal growth. I expect to become more responsible and independent. Living in a new country will require me to manage my time, make decisions, and solve problems on my own. I look forward to handling daily tasks and challenges, which will ultimately help me grow as an individual. This experience will teach me how to adapt to new situations, balance work and social life, and gain confidence in my abilities. I also look forward to making new friends. As a sociable person, I’m excited to meet people from different backgrounds and form connections. I believe that friendships are one of the most valuable aspects of living abroad. I hope to share experiences, create lasting memories, and learn from others. I look forward to connecting with individuals who have different perspectives, as I believe this will enrich my understanding of the world. Lastly, I am eager to share my own culture. I would love to introduce others to some of my country’s typical dishes, traditions, and customs. By sharing my heritage, I hope to offer a deeper understanding of where I come from and connect with others on a more personal level. I believe this exchange of cultures will benefit both me and those around me, helping us build a greater appreciation for each other’s backgrounds. In conclusion, I expect this year in the USA to be full of growth, learning, and meaningful connections. I am excited to face the challenges ahead and to create memories that will last a lifetime.

Thank you very much for this opportunity.

Great regards,

Riccardo

I am very curious about many things and have a wide range of interests. I am an active and outgoing person with the free spirit mind. I like to try different sport activities. I hope we will have fun for doing some outdoor or sport activities.

Student Letter:

Hello!

I am Kernel. I am very curious about many things and have a wide range of interests. My parents always encourage me to participate in various activities and competitions, and I've won quite a few awards, such as a world championship in robotics, national second place in bodybuilding, and fifth place nationally in kendo. Beyond competitions, I've also earned multiple certifications, like scuba diving and free diving. I’m passionate about sports and have tried many, especially fitness and basketball. If I get the chance to go to the U.S., I’d like to try new sports like wrestling and boxing.

On weekdays, I wake up at 6 a.m. and take the bus to school. I attend classes until 5 p.m., then return home. On Mondays and Wednesdays, I join online classes with LWLHS from 7 to 9 p.m. During my other free time, I hang out with friends, go to the gym, and play games.

Our family has five members, including me, my older sister, and my younger brother. My dad has a great love for sports and nature; since I was young, he often took us on outdoor adventures, letting us experience the beauty of nature. My mom is a photographer who captures every special moment of our lives, filling our home with warmth and memories through her photos. My sister is very academically talented; she was accepted into the University of Queensland and is the true scholar of our family. As for my younger brother, he is the family member I’m closest to; we’re always playing, talking, and sharing our thoughts.

Taiwan’s culture blends Chinese, indigenous, Japanese, and modern Western influences, creating a unique diversity. Taiwanese people value traditional holidays like the Lunar New Year, Dragon Boat Festival, and Mid-Autumn Festival, which are celebrated with family gatherings and unique customs. I also hope to experience the local culture during my exchange year. Thank you for hosting me and welcoming me with kindness. I believe that we will have the best memories ever.

Best Wishes,

Kernel
