About:

I am a very hard-working person and I put all I have to what I want to achieve. I love challenges and always am encouraged and open to trying new and different things, meaning I adapt easily. I am sporty and love most sports, without caring which one it especifically is. In soccer I play center midfield for a team in the district of Hortaleza, Madrid called A.D. Villa Rosa. I am a very resilient person who can adapt quite easily to any circumstance and always have a smile in my face.

Student Letter:

Dear Host Family,

First of all, many thanks for spending your time in reading this letter and taking it into consideration. I will introduce myself and explain all the key parts you might want to know. First of all, my family consists of; my mother, Marta Marron, my father, Alberto Gallego and my sister, Carlota who is actually applying to be an exchange student as well. I really like all of my family because, my father is a very hard-working person who is very helpful and determined. My mother is a great person and always supports me in all the ways she possibly can and my sister is always there when I am not feeling to well.

Moving away from my family, I will describe who I think I am as a person. Personally, I am a very hard-working and determined person. I always give all that I can to my end-goal, where I want to reach to. I am also a very affectionate person, I really like little children and especially love taking care them. Furthermore, I also am very sporty and love any type of sports, however my favourites are skiing, surfing and, especially, football. I am a very resilient person who can adapt quite easily to any circumstance and always have a smile in my face. Sometimes, I can get quite frustrated when something does not go as planned, but I put all I have to working it out. For example, last week I was finishing my computing project when I found out that one of the first lines of the code was not functioning. At first, I got quite mad and became quite disappointed. However, after a few minutes, I started again, very determined to finish this project and receive instant gratification. I worked very hard and I managed to hand in the project before the deadline. I actually got an A and became super proud of myself.

My routine nowadays is quite simple, but at the same time very entretaining. I wake up, go to school, and after that go either to my german class or to play soccer, which I have already introduced in my activities/interests section. One of the reasons that I am very excited to go to USA as an exchange student is to change my lifestyle and daily routine. I am willing to change everything in order to open my mind even more and get to know new cultures and having a new lasting experience. I don´t really have any idealized expectations on what I am going to live but I am definitely sure that I want this academic year to be absolutely outstanding.

In conclusion, I think I am a great candidate for this program because, firstly, I am very eager to perform this trip, as it will serve me as a new experience and will aport me positiely in many ways. Furthermore, I am a very open-minded person and I do not have any preferences or bias towards anyone and can perfectly help with taking care of little children and helping with chores in the house, like setting/cleaning the table and much more.

Thank you for your time and attention and for having taken my letter into consideration to make your exciting decision.

Best regards,

Lucas

Student Letter:

To my future host family,

I hope everything is going great.

I want to tell you how excited I am for the experience ahead of us and share a little bit about my expectations, interests, and how I plan to add a touch of Spain during my year in the United States.

First of all, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for opening the doors of your home to me and giving me the opportunity to be a part of your family. I am excited to get to know you and learn about your culture while showing you a little bit of mine!

My expectations for this year in the USA are simple: to learn, to grow and to have fun. I want to immerse myself in American life, perfect my English and share experiences. I hope we can explore new places and enjoy unforgettable moments as a family.

Although I have been in the United States because of a trip to New York that I took with my whole family in 2011, and I have heard about your country from the stories that my sisters have told me about their experiences in the United States, I want to experience all these customs and traditions in the first person. My sister Ana (the oldest) was in Hockinson, Washington and Nieves (my third sister) was in Memphis, Tennessee.

As for my interests, I am looking forward to the local and popular sports as I am really into sports. I would also like to get to know typical food, culture, festivals, and visiting places I have wanted to see since I was little. I know there are a lot of exciting opportunities and I am ready to take advantage of them.

Also, I am looking forward to sharing my Spanish culture with you and your friends. I can cook some traditional recipes like tortilla de patata (potato omelette) and tell you about Spanish festivities.

I am excited for this experience and I am committed to make this year a time full of laughter and mutual learning. Thank you for giving me this opportunity and I am eager to begin this exciting adventure together.

Sincerely,

Rafa

About:

I'm a really outgoing person: I am always outside with my friends or even alone to run; I don't like to stay at home always because I get bored quickly. I consider myself an hardworking person because I always try to push myself above my limits especially at the gym, and in general in every physical activity that I undertake. I'm also really adaptable, I usually don't complain about things that are different, I always try to push myself out of my comfort zone and I also adapt to different food.

Student Letter:

Dear host family,

I consider myself as a talkative person, I always want to tell my opinion, I'm serious and optimistic, I always try to look for the good in everything. I'm really adaptable: I like almost every kind of food and I can fit in the familiar habits without any problems.

I've always been a good student, I like going to school and I study a lot. From September 2023 I've been attending a double degree course: it lasts 3 years and it has a part of video-lessons but also some documents just to study on my own. My absolute favorite subject is chemistry, I really love going to the laboratory even if in my school it doesn't happen so much. I get along well with all the professors and I also have really good talks with some of them; I'm really bonded with all of my classmates especially one, Luca, who is my best friend.

I've always had a great relationship with my family, I love and respect them and they do the same with me, I'm grateful for my parents and also for my sister. I don't believe in any religion even if my family is Christian, but I'd really like to attend a gospel mass. I love music, my favorite musical genre is jazz, I think it's calm and relaxing but also full of life. My favorite jazz singers are Chet Baker and Ray Charles.

I often go to the gym and it's an important part of my life, it's the base of every other sport and helps to keep you athletic. I really like reading books, I think they can open your mind and evolve the way you think. I like to talk with people, having small talks or sharing opinions about important topics. I like to hang out in the evening and I love looking at the stars (I'm a rational person and I don't believe in astronomy by the way). I like every kind of food, I don’t have any dietary restriction.

I'm really excited to undertake an experience like this. I would like to live the American teenager’s life, adapting to the routine, the school and the people: three things that I guess are really different from here, in Italy. I would like to be an exchange student because I think this will help me with my future: I will be more prepared in English and I will understand much more about the world, how people live, how they talk, how they interact with each other and their habits. I also want to test myself by living for 1 year far from my friends and my parents. I know I will be missing them, but this will make me grow up and mature. I expect to learn a lot but also to have fun, it will be amazing to interact in first person with a really different culture and to know a lot of new and various people. I like cooking and I would really like sharing it with you, after all I'm Italian and I would share my culture in this way. I would love to try a lot of the famous American sports like football and baseball, I haven't ever tried them in my life but I would put all my effort in making it through the selections, since I’m also pretty good in soccer.

Thank you very much for reading this.

I hope to see you soon!

Stefano.

About:

I may seem a little shy but in reality I'm sociable and friendly. I'm mature for my age. I'm friendly and sociable, it can help me make new friends. I'm respectful. I can adapt to new situations without feeling uncomfortable.

Student Letter:

Dear host family,

First of all, I really want to thank you for welcoming me in your family. I look forward to meeting you. I think it will be an amazing experience.

I'm a seventeen years old teenager. I'm sociable, friendly and respectful. People say about me that I'm mature and responsible for my age. I can easily adapt to new situations and take things maturely and open up intellectually. I have a little sister who is fourteen. We live with ours two parents at home. We have two cats and one dog. We get along very well with our parents and we rarely get into arguments.

I live in a small town. There is a sports center with a swimming pool, a sports hall, a field where you can play soccer and football, tennis and paddle fields. There are restaurants and some clothes stores but with ours friends we prefer to go to the next city which is bigger and where there are more things to do.

During the week, I go to school from 8 am to 4 pm except Wednesday until 12 am. We have three breaks during the day: two of 15 minutes at 10 am and 2 pm and one of 45 minutes at 12 am. At school, I get on well with almost everyone in my year but I have friends who I get on better with. I'm pretty good at language classes like Dutch and English but I also like math even if it's quite hard. After school, I work around one and two hours a day if I have a lot of work and I help my sister with hers if she needs it.

I really like sport, I play soccer three times a week and I used to play tennis once a week but I stopped this year. I think I'm quite sporty. I also like basketball but I don't play it, I just play sometimes for fun and I watch the NBA. Of course I like watching football on TV especially the Champions League. I love FC Barcelona. During my free time, on the weekend or after the school, I like playing video games, read some comics, go to see soccer matches or go out with friends. On holiday, I sometimes go to the see or visit a city with my family.

I really can't wait to take part in this experience. I think it will be very interesting to discover a new culture and a new way of living. It's a real chance to live a new experience like this and to get to know new people from another language and another culture. Of course it's a good way to improve my English, which will later allow me to do higher studies abroad and will offer me the possibility of working internationally. I chose this country because one of my dreams is to go to the United States and discover this country. I also received reviews from people I knew who went there and who had a great experience. For my part, I think I can bring the culture of my country of origin such as gastronomy, the sports we practice, the style of humor we like. I can show my classmates the music we listen to, the stars we like, the sports we do, what we do at school and with our friends.

I would like to thank you again for your generosity and hospitality and for allowing me to participate in this experience.

Yours sincerely,

Tom

About:

I'm Nathan, I'm currently 17 years old. One of my biggest wishes is to spend a year in America. I'm a happy person, I have two great parents and a dog, so we're a happy family of four. I play field hockey and absolutely love it. My favorite subjects are geography, history, and sports because I'm very athletic and competitive. I grew up in a warm family where I always got a lot of love. Many of my qualities, like honesty, openness, helping others, and my adventurous spirit, I owe it to my parents

Student Letter:

Dear Host Family,

Before I start my letter, I hope everything is going well with you. I understand that you mostly want to read this letter, so I'll start by introducing myself. My name is Nathan and I'm currently 17 years old. By the time I arrive in America with you, I'll already be eighteen because my birthday is on May 1st. One of my biggest wishes is to spend a year in America, maybe even with you as a host family. But that doesn't mean I'm not happy where I am now. I have two great parents and a dog, so we're a happy family of four. Besides my schoolwork - I'll tell you more about that later - I play field hockey. It's mostly known here in the US as a women's sport and in Belgium it's the second most popular sport. I've been playing hockey since I was five, so it's been quite a while. And I still enjoy it as much as when I started. But my hockey career hasn't always been smooth. Although I've always got along well with others, I wasn't very good at the sport at first. But I was determined to get better, which shows I have perseverance. My goal has always been to play in the first team, and eventually, I succeeded. I've been playing constantly in the first team for the past four years. So hard work has definitely paid off. Besides hockey, I also go to school every day. I'm currently in my last year and I'm studying economics and languages. My favorite subjects are geography, history, and sports because I'm very athletic and competitive. I don't handle losing well, but that doesn't mean I'm grumpy all day. The subjects I like a bit less are French and chemistry. But enough about my sports and school; maybe you'd also like to know something about my family. I grew up in a warm family where I always got a lot of love. Many of my qualities, like honesty, openness, helping others, and my adventurous spirit, I owe to my parents. I think you'll enjoy my cheerful personality; I almost always have a smile on my face (except when I lose a hockey match), and I'm happy to help with household chores, gardening, or other tasks. You might be wondering why I chose to go to America and be an exchange student. My two aunts went to America as exchange students and said it was a unique opportunity, so that definitely inspired me. But the main reason is that such an exchange program fits perfectly with my future plans. I dream of becoming a pilot, so my English has to be excellent. I need to get used to being away from home often, which is ideal for my future career, and it'll also help me develop as a person.

As I mentioned earlier, I want to become a pilot. I've been fascinated by everything related to aviation since I was a child, which is why I have many model airplanes in my room and dream of becoming a pilot. I'm also very interested in history, especially the First and Second World Wars. Another thing that interests me a lot is the NFL. I hope we can make beautiful memories together and have an unforgettable time. Thank you for welcoming me. Nathan
